About the event
Start the new year with critical avalanche education in the Level 1 Avalanche Course, hosted by the Alaska Avalanche School from January 3–5, 2026, with daily sessions from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM at Hatcher Pass. This 3-day, hands-on course is the gold standard for recreational backcountry users. You’ll learn to recognize avalanche terrain, interpret snow and weather data, plan safe routes, and perform companion rescues.
